About Low Rider Dog

Hi, I'm Charles. I'm a maintenance mechanic, so when something isn't working right, my first move is to build a fix.

That's how this site started. When my light-brown dachshund Brew was a puppy, he couldn't do the deck steps at all. Those stairs are built for people, and for a tiny dog with a long back and short legs, every step is a jump. So I built him a ramp right alongside the stairs. I've built several of these now.

Brew's 2 now and can handle the stairs these days, but plenty of dachshund owners deal with the same problems we did. Low Rider Dog is where I write up what I've actually done: what I used, what it cost and what I learned. Everything here comes from my own experience.

What this site isn't

I'm not a vet, and nothing here is medical advice. When a guide touches on health, I link to veterinary sources like VCA Animal Hospitals and Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine. If your dog has back trouble or you're not sure what's right for them, ask your vet.

PupNpawDesign

When I'm not building ramps, I run the PupNpawDesign Etsy shop, where I make custom dachshund shirts from your dog's photo.

Say hi

If you build something from one of these guides, I'd love to see it.
